Supergrounds - Friday, December 05, 2008
 St Benedict's has been awarded £4000 via the Royal Bank of Scotland's "Supergrounds" programme. The school was nominated by one of the parents, Nigel Crutchley. The project will improve the school's outside area. Ideas are already coming forward such as outdoor classrooms, a minibeast area, vegetable patches and a mini golf coure. in the mean time 20th May 2009 will be our Supergrounds day when all the work will be done by RBS staff, volunteers, local tradesmen and hopefully, some of the parents.

Snowhenge
 St Ben’s Day in the Snow
Yesterday (Tuesday) St Benedict’s remained open in the snowy conditions. Almost all the staff made it in and two-thirds of the children.
The site was judged to be safe and most major routes were clear. Typically in these circumstances the worst parts of any journey are the first and last hundred metres or so. With our wide catchment area parents need to listen to local news and check websites before making a decision about whether their children’s journey should go ahead.
We monitor conditions using all means available and if it is decided that the school should remain closed this will be publicised through BBC local radio and listings on the BBC website. You may also ring the class telephone contacts (after 7.30 am, please) who will be told if the school is to be closed.
We were told during the morning that the school meals would not be able to get to us from the kitchen at Bishop Henderson School in Coleford. What to do? The Centurion Hotel came to our rescue and in true blitz spirit we were able to give the children a mug of soup and bread rolls. Big thanks to our neighbours!
Children and staff enjoyed a mass snowball fight on the field during the morning – many children and staff seemed to target Mr Nicholas for not giving them a day off.
A new feature of the school appeared – Snowhenge!
We all stayed safe, had loads of fun together and managed to keep the business of learning going. Well done and thank you, everyone.

Robo-bend - Friday, December 05, 2008
 Congratulations to our robotics team, the Robo-bens. They represented the school in a regional competition held in Bristol and did brilliantly well. The teams were judged on the design of their robots, their presentation on the environmental issues they had researched, performance in the mission and teamwork. Robo-bens came second in the important mission and were also awarded second place for their fantastic teamwork. Many thanks to Mr Tater and Mrs Serle for all their organisation and support and Mr Magrath for his advice on the environmental issues.

Lunch on us
 Wednesday 26th November was 'Lunch on Us' day. The Somerset County School meal Service provided a free lunch for everyone to try. 135 children and staff enjoyed a hot meal. Thanks to SCS and the staff for all mucking in and making sure the children were served. It was a challenge to suddenly gear up from our normal numbers but we managed it together. Information about the SCS lunch club has now gone to all the children. KS1 meals are £1.95 aday and KS2 meals are £2.10 perday. Christmas lunch will be on Thursday 18th December.

Weston-Super-Mare visit by year 1
 Year 1 visited Weston-super-Mare and the Timemachine Museum. The saw many old and forgotten toys, tried on period clothing and visited Clara's Cottage. Lots to see and do! The finsihed with a play on the beach and it wasn't too cold for an icecream!
